Dosbox Direct Serial Rx Delay

Using dosbox on WinXP with recent hardware and need to be able to receive a serial signal with 9600,8,n,1 and no flow control in a legacy DOS application from 1993 and also need to print to LPT1.

Hey everyone, I have this 5150 running DOS 5.0 from the HDD and it came with no software and I have no way to write 5.25' disks, so I'm following the laplink tutorial at minuszero. I've tried it multiple times, using both a real LapLink cable (3-headed) as well as a 9 pin/24 pin null modem serial cable, but it won't connect. My XP box has a header for the serial port, so I think I'm getting true ISA support and it's set at COM1. It looks like the jumper settings on the IBM's Async serial card are set correctly too (little dot at the top of each jumper panel so it should be com1 and RS-232). It seems like the com port on the IBM is opening ok too.no errors or anything when I set the mode to 2400,n,8,1,p. I'm following the instructions exactly, but I keep getting a 'Laplink cannot connect' error. I've rebooted the machines, tried both cables, lowered the speed of DosBox down from 3000 cycles to as low as 8 and 20 cycles.no luck.

Here is an error I do get at times in the DosBox status window. Serial1: Errors: Framing 1, Parity 0, Overrun RX:0 (IF0:0), TX:0, Break 1 It doesn't mean much to me, unfortunately. Also, on my XP machine, I think the serial port is working ok.when I enter 'mode com1' at the cmd prompt I get this: Status for device COM1: ----------------------- Baud: 1200 Parity: None Data Bits: 7 Stop Bits: 1 Timeout: OFF XON/XOFF: OFF CTS handshaking: OFF DSR handshaking: OFF DSR sensitivity: OFF DTR circuit: ON RTS circuit: ON However, after setting the com1 mode on the IBM and running 'mode com1', I only get this.is it a problem? Status for device COM1: ----------------------- Retry=B So does anyone have any ideas of where I can look? I suspect there may be an issue with my IBM since I'm not seeing all the output on Com1 status, but that's just a guess at this point. Any other ways to check that the serial card is working ok? I have this 5150 running DOS 5.0 from the HDD and it came with no software and I have no way to write 5.25' disks, Note that with a 5150, you have the option of transferring files via 720K diskettes.

If you don't have a 720K diskette, then a fake one can be created by taping over the density hole on a 1.44M drive. That is not a legitimate action, but it should work for what you want to do. See My XP box has a header for the serial port, so I think I'm getting true ISA support and it's set at COM1. I could not get the LapLink procedure to work using my USB-to-serial adapter. Here is an error I do get at times in the DosBox status window. I saw something similar. That's why I wrote, 'Ignore any serial errors that appear in the DOSBox status window.'
