Sherwood Ax-4050r Manual
'Sherwood AX-4050R amp + Sherwood CD-3050R.CD player.' 6th October 2014: I bought this amp from Richer Sounds along with the Sherwood CD-3050R cd player. I bought them in the late 1990s and I get incredible sound using a pair of Mordaunt Short MS20i Pearl edition speakers. The equipment has been boxed since I moved to Portugal in 2008. In this Auction I am selling Sherwood Intergrated Amplifier AX-4050R. Rally good sound quality. There is small damage to one side, but this doesnt affect the sound at all.
Reviewed Aug 28th, 2016 by I always liked this receiver, but it's been mothballed for a while. The reason for that was I replaced it for a true 5.1 system with a sub. This was pre 5.1 (and does not have a sub woofer out) and was state of the art for home stereo and VHS tape at the time. It had a wonderful sound for just playing music.
I even thought MUCH better than my nice Panasonic 5.1 system which is in the Great Room now. I think the current 5.1 systems leave one cold for just listening to strictly MUSIC but that may be just ME. Recently I brought the Sherwood back out and put it up in a basement studio where I can go to just listen to music (LOUD). One of the former things I liked about it was the ability to have rear speakers that one could put on a slight delay which added a lot to filling the room. Well, I had forgotten how nice this sounded. Note that this system is in parallel with a Fisher all tube (X-100-3) system.
What I found is for more modern rock etc where there is a lot of electric bass and modern EQ, this amp is spectacular. Clean low end for bass, ability to run a graphic EQ if needed (or in my case Bose 901 speakers).
For strictly music this unit offers great sound. I still prefer the Fisher for big band and acoustic stuff which is where I think tubes reign supreme, but I can't see where anyone would not love the solid state sound of this Sherwood. Very versatile, can hook a turntable up to it which also sounds spectacular for that analog sound. I had an old Steely Dan vinyl on last night and the room was filled with luscious sounds especially with those rear speakers on to add ambience. Tight bass, crisp highs, room filling capabilities. Acoustic guitars jump out in the mix.
The only reason I give it a 9 is that it can't do a Sub-woofer or true 5.1 (with L/R individual rears) but this amp was designed before all of that. Well designed control face, everything accessible from the remote. I really like this amp, I'm very glad it's back in music service at my home. For strictly MUSIC, you'd have to look hard to find a better amp for the money especially for what you can get one used for today. Hi, Thanks for service manual for this receiver. Ive got it used and without remote.
I was thinking to replace it with 5.1 or 7.1 ones, i was testing sony STR-K850P and yamaha rx-v757 which were younger than sherwood. I was amused and surprised: sherwood is the winner. It has a very deep, clear and natural sound. So decided to leave by now a sherwood as a living room boom box. OLD BUT BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT MACHINE. Looking for remote for it.
I have tried bunch of them but none of them work with sherwood. Please let me know which remote could work with it.
